About

The Dixie Hoedown was started to get back to a type of dancing that has slipped away in many respects: folks getting together to dance in a fun and encouraging atmosphere, and socializing together during the day whilst doing non-dance activity. Maybe learning a few things from established pro or semi-pro dancers.

No competitions, no big hotels and no outrageous weekend pass prices. The ticket prices I’ve tried to keep low enough to cover the expenses and if I miss that target I’ll go into my pocket for the balance.

All you have to do is have a good time. And maybe dance with a few people you’ve never danced with before.

I’m very proud of this year’s Dixie Hoedown staff — they even have their own page! — led by high level world famous Pros.

I’m very grateful to Neon Boots Saloon & Dancehall which has preserved the essential dance floor of the historic Esquire Ballroom that hosted the likes of Willie Nelson and Patsy Cline “back in the day”. Neon Boots has graciously opened the use of their dance floor for Dixie Hoedown’s workshops and dances.

And in particular one of the owners, Debbie Storrs, has gone out of her way to encourage Country Western and Swing dancing (by everyone, not just the LGBT community) on this most wonderful of dancehall floors.

I’d also like to thank Lindo, Lissa, Debbie, and Don for enough kicks in the butt to just go out and do something about adding more dancing to everyone’s calendar. And on short notice, yikes!

Yee-haa, y’all! Enjoy!
